Interview with Rudi Tuinman, 2dezign

Create magic moments and wow effects at the PoS

28 Nov 2023

How do you create breathtaking wow effects through shop window decoration and shop design? And what effect does this have on your customers? Rudi Tuinman, designer and concept developer at 2dezign, is convinced that a pleasant moment of surprise is the best way to reach customers and gives tips on how to create "magic moments".

"We need magic moments at the Point of Sale. The wow effect of the shop window design or a shop is extremely important to give the customer a good feeling. Customers remember it and like to come back."

Shop window and shop decoration at the point of sale plays a key role when it comes to winning over customers. This is because it encourages customers to discover even more and intuitively opens their eyes to beautiful product worlds. The best way to do this is to create a wow effect that is memorable. This is created by an unconventional product mix. "Think out of the box" is Rudi Tuinman's motto. Together with Pascal Koeleman from 2dezign, the Dutch expert has been showing how an extraordinary shopping experience can be realised through festive and seasonal decorations for over ten years with the special presentation Decoration Unlimited at Christmasworld.

In this interview, Rudi Tuinman reveals how they come up with their creative ideas and what inspires them. He also gives exciting insights and valuable tips that you can apply to your PoS.

His tip: "Always start with the colour. Take inspiration from your travels or from interior magazines and trade fairs. Colours are the most important source of inspiration - they have the power to make people happy," says the expert. Based on the colour, look for suitable products and materials, design prints and mood boards. An important aspect is to combine hardware and software. Hardware are decorative items such as Christmas lights, vases or Christmas baubles - software are natural elements such as fresh flowers and plants that liven up the atmosphere.

In addition, all the senses need to be stimulated - listening to music, watching films, smelling flowers. Everything must form a harmonious whole and follow a clear storytelling. Everything needs to fit to the story!
