In search of the perfect form
Passion, style, personality, precision, functionality, purism, zeitgeist, beauty, uniqueness, craftsmanship.
Jan Philippi sees the beauty in things and transforms them into artistic pieces. No-nonsense items bearing a unique mark and style. He rises to life’s challenges and offers durable products for an ever-changing world. Products that capture your heart, for yourself or as gifts for others.
A Hanseat Who Loves Design
The Hamburg export merchant, Jan Philippi, sensed his preference for unambiguous forms very early on. Nonetheless, he was required to engage himself with the sales of a hanseatic retailer’s HiFi-equipment. PHILIPPI quickly realized that some of those products downright infuriated him: they were just plain ugly. As a man of action, here and there he attempted to improve and beautify, as he believed even HiFi cabinets and furnishings should look good.
The consumer goods demand tremendously increased in Germany at the end of the 1980’s and although Jan Philippi had to travel to many countries on his behalf of his company, this allowed him to make contact to several competent companies. Unfortunately, quantity and not quality was in demand back then; as a friend of quality products, this was a trend that PHILIPPI was not willing to accept. Disappointed by the prevailing taste, he decisively went about creating his own personal solution; striking the entrepreneurial path to opening his own business.
Two Businesses and One Ideal
In 1992, Jan Philippi opened two retail stores in Hamburg, stocking them both with design pieces that he felt correlated to his ideal of being unostentatious, clear and modern. With fresh ideas, suggestions collected during many journeys and an unmistakable sense of good design, he discovered companies capable of transposing his visions of design into the tangible. Winged by this headway, he soon ventured the step from retail to wholesale.
As the company’s creative mind, Jan Philippi has been inspiring his designers since then. With extreme precision and great attention to detail, he works closely with his team, from the drafting stage right up to the moment that the product is market-ready. Even today, that collaboration hasn’t changed: The boss still supports young talents and attaches great importance to good cooperation with creative professionals as well as manufacturers. Jan Philippi still personally and intensively follows through the entire designing process; he still personally attends to each and every customer and believes philanthropy is a fundamental company principle.
Once Around The World
In the meantime, the small, northern German start-up company has evolved to an internationally renowned brand with approximately 500 products, employing twenty-five staff members at their headquarters and with many representives abroad. Furniture and stationary stores, household goods and gift shops, florists and shopping icons such as the KaDeWe in Berlin, all successfully sell the products designed by PHILIPPI. In addition, those sophisticated and practical daily helpers from Hamburg are also available in more than ninety countries, including France, Japan, Columbia, Dubai, Africa, and the USA, and just recently added Moscow and Chile. PHILIPPI can even be found in MoMA New York!
Today And Tomorrow
Creativity, courage and imagination associated with that healthy hanseatic sense of business have made the PHILIPPI brand what it is today. And if you’ve ever met up with PHILIPPI, you’ll discern: uncompromisingly creative, with an individual style and resolute perspective on great design will definitely go on. We all can hardly wait...

4 candlesticks
MORE GRANDEZZA THAN EVER BEFORE
The reissue of the design classic from PHILIPPI is a highlight in every respect. Unusually high and with a finely balanced staggering, the sophisticated chandelier is enthroned above the festively laid table. No fewer than four rod candles provide the appropriate lighting for festive occasions or a romantic dinner for two. A rarely purist, modern design that has no half-life and will last for many, many years to com

PHILIPPI MANHATTAN bowl
SO FRESH, SO MANHATTAN
MANHATTAN is, without exaggeration, the first bowl with a skyline. What bends upwards and reliably prevents fruit of all kinds from rolling out symbolises nothing less than the skyscrapers and street canyons of the city that never sleeps. In the grateful absence of all possible Big Apple jokes, it should also be pointed out once again that MANHATTAN is, of course, food-safe. And even in its secondary function as a tray for serving champagne or aperitifs, it already has the potential to become a design classic.

Plissee vase
ART FROM THE 3D PRINTER
PLISSEE, the large, bulbous sister of Philippi´s FRAPPEE vase, is created using the same elaborate 3D printing process and then fired at 1,200°C in the kiln. The unique layered structure of hundreds of layers in fascinating contrast to the flowing, light pleated look is undoubtedly the hallmark of both vessels. FRAPPEE is also sealed watertight from the inside with a glaze up to half the height, because double simply holds better. Ideally, the fine structure should simply be cleaned by hand with a soft, damp cloth so that it does not gradually wash out in the dishwasher. Even individually, the vases are a dream in combination with cheerful, colourful flower bouquets; as a pair, they create a magnificent firework display.

Couch mini wardrobe
DROP AND HANG OUT IN ONE PLACE
Coming home and immediately hitting the COUCH now has a whole new meaning. The ultra-chic miniature version hangs directly on the wall in the entrance area. With the Pocket Emptier, the pockets are emptied in no time at all - card case, smartphone, sunglasses and other accessories make themselves comfortable next to the corresponding cushion and remain ready to hand at this fixed location without having to search. Keys can be stored neatly underneath on one of the three hooks. However, if this seat actually looks more elegant than its big sister in the living room, you should think again...

Module Vase set (5 piece)
Plenty of scope for your creativity
Our PHILIPPI vase set consists of five unique vases, each with its own height and shape. Whether used individually or in customised combinations, the vases merge into an impressive unit that never gets boring. Each new arrangement opens up new possibilities and inspires new creations.
Masterful shape and colour
The vases made of extra-thick-walled glass are mouth-blown and coloured in a mysterious smoky grey. Each vase is designed with a unique, curved shape that perfectly matches the others. This harmonious combination makes the vases appear as if they were made for each other and conjures up a fascinating ensemble in your home.
Simple is best
The dark body of each vase is complemented by an extra-thick, crystal-clear base, creating a stunning contrast. For maximum effect, we recommend a reduced colour selection for the flowers - this way, the vases stand out particularly well and unfold their full effect. Treat yourself to this piece of timeless elegance and transform your home into an oasis of inspiration. With our PHILIPPI vase set, every room becomes a work of art that inspires time and time again.
